Cody Draco is an emerging poet and recent transplant to Bowling Green, Kentucky. His work carves through raw emotional terrain, wielding sharp societal critique, surreal imagery, and language bent to his will. Unflinching yet deeply human, his poetry pushes boundaries while distilling meaning from the void of 21st-century existence.
Heaven is on the Horizon
I haven’t been honest
at least not with myself
heaven is on the horizon
beyond dust collected on this crowded shelf
I’m an antiquated book with odd binding
pondering while peering out
how will love disfigure me
in the future reverie of my union?
my contents have long been misunderstood
I’ve been divisive as only thought-provoking art should be
yet nobody is laundering money through me
I’m no drunken paint-splattered canvas
hanging hungover in a Manhatten gallery
with a cost of acquisition in the realm of steep impossibility
except for those with financial capital to freely bleed
they harbor fugitive funds amongst
the not-proven-guilty-by-a-court-of-law elite
instead of supporting struggling businesses
squeezed alongside potholed streets
they plant money trees in remote Montana compounds
off the grid and out of reach
Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan
sold a duct-taped fruit-stand banana for six million dollars
to a Chinese-born crypto entrepeneur named Justin Sun
by way of art auction
who later ate the yellow fellow
which made me consider cutting my dick off
I would gladly shove it down his throat for half the price
not thinking twice about my spur-of-the-moment sacrifice
