Jake Salazar is a writer based in St. Louis, Missouri. He is a Pushcart Prize nominee and studies English at the University of Missouri, St. Louis. He is currently compiling his first collection of poetry. He is a member of the Lipan Apache Tribe of Texas.
I felt nirvana earlier
while I was separating kale
leaves from stems.
That movement, like most,
is a kind of meditation.
(I have to trust that this is true
because I can’t sit still.) I gave
my offerings, a recipe and song:
chickpea soup with stewed tomatoes;
a croony baritone rendition
of Love Hurts, by Nazareth.
